Reports reaching our news desk confirm that Zambia’s vocal opposition leader Dr. Chishimba Kambwili has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Ndola magistrate court over allegations of forgery and holding office under false pretence.
This comes at a time when Zambians are about to go to the polls by the middle of the year 2021 to elect their preferred candidate.
A lot of speculations have emerged citing a possible set up in the bid to kick him out of the presidential race thereby making it a “two horse race”.
Dr. Chishimba Kambwili, a man of unique stature, has been in the forefront in criticising the government under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu on various instances and about various social aspect.
The ruling party; the Patriotic Front has been in government since the year 2016 and they are looking forward for a second term come 2021.
The boiling temperatures in the political sphere have escalated as days draw new to the 2021 general elections.
Chilufya Tayali, the man behind the unfortunate happening of Dr. Chishimba Kambwili was hosted in Zambia’s Diamond TV interview whereby he clarified that he had no backing from the government in spearheading the incarceration of Dr. Kambwili.
He further blames the government for failure to take earlier measures bearing it in mind that he submitted a report of his finding about Dr. Kambwili’s misconducts but the government under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu failed to take necessary actions.
Chishimba Kambwili’s lawyers have informed the media on plans to appeal the case terming Dr. Chishimba Kambwili’s imprisonment as unjust.
