Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth has spelt doom for Deputy President William Ruto as far as Mt Kenya politics is concerned, claiming the DP’s allies from the region will ditch him come 2022.
The ex-presidential aspirant dismissed allegations Mount Kenya people were divided saying there were only differences in ideologies. He insisted the region has just one spokesperson who is President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to TV47 on Tuesday, November 10, Kenneth said voters in his backyard will vote as a block just like they did in the previous elections.
“How can Mount Kenya be divided when the president is from the region and is also the spokesperson of the region? The fact that people have diversity in opinions within the region does not make the mountain divided.
“As far as I know, the region has one spokesperson; the president (Uhuru), who is there for the next two years. You need to go back to history, after every term leaders from the region usually have different views…but come the election…you get the mountain speaking in one language.”He added.
William Ruto’s inroads
Deputy President William Ruto has made several inroads into Mt Kenya as he seeks to endear himself to the vote rich region ahead of the 2022 General Election.
The second in command who has expressed his interest in succeeding his boss, Uhuru, has been championing his so called hustler movement while pushing for a conversation that touches on the the plight of ordinary citizens.
Some of the DP’s vocal supporters in the region are MPs Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Purity Ngirici (Kirinyaga) and Senators Mithika Linturi (Meru) andKithure Kindiki (Tharaka Nithi).
In a related story, Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi said a section of Mt Kenya MPs were deceiving Ruto.
The current affairs commentator said the DP cannot buy Mt Kenya support and was “sleeping” as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) took shape.
Ngunyi, popularly known for his tyranny of numbers theory said Kikuyus can only be “rented” and cannot be “bought”.
“You can never buy a Kikuyu, you can only rent one, those MPs from Mt. Kenya region who are friends with Ruto are only deluding him,”the analyst said on his Twitter page on Monday, November 4, 2019.
